Default White Smoke

Hey folks,

I have a 97 V8 4.6L automatic, and when I started it today, all seemed fine. Once I got to heading out on the road, I noticed some white smoke coming from the exhaust. Once she got up to operating temp, the smoke stopped. All I've done to it in the past 2 days(when she started smoking) was add a bottle of Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner, and change Bank 2 Sensor 1. It's also starting to get cold and rain a bit here, and I park outside with no temp regulator. Is this normal or am I right to be freaking out?

You sure it's smoke not steam? My truck does that same thing and it's steam.

It is very possible that it is steam. I tried to test it just now, but when I revved it up from cold, there was no steam. Then when I let it cool and drove it at cold, I got the smoke when I revved it hard.

It's the condensation in the muffler and tailpipe curves, that is evaporating off as the pipes heat up. It is very common. Sort of like your breathe when it's fairly cold out. It's a natural occurrence. lol

One way to make sure is smell it. Or watch how long it stays in the air. steam will be gone in a few seconds smoke lingers.
