Unless that's the wrong spark plug for the head.

The insert in Makuloco's video is longer and covers all of the plug threads.
I know what your saying. The plug chambers only have 3.5- 4 threads, so no matter the length that's all the contact you going get. The 8 or 9 thread upgrade is for the plugs to retain a lower torque spec. If they would incorporate 266 with 4 thread inserts, they would have a similar holding strength. But they don't, they have you using ultra copper permatex or JB and being that neither of those have the proper longevity for a procedure like this, they fail.

I believe the carbon problem with 3 valve is thing isn't it ?

Are you saying since this cylinder has already be re-threaded by the existing "fix" that the normal size sert product won't work? Conceptually that makes sense, just want to make sure I understand what you are saying.

Seems like my options are:
1) Find a quality insert that is the going to match the threads that was made by the existing insert. Will the Cal-Van 266 just work? (I just searched internet and I must suck at google because I couldn't find the product) I event went to cal van tools website and failed to find it.
2) If that doesn't work I need to step up to the Big-Sert?
Yea, that's what I would do, use what you have, just use a better locker, - 266. Or go with the longer insert. Yes, they are all threaded the same.

It looks like the helicoil insert broke while you were removing the old plug, maybe? you may have the lower half stuck and spinning in the hole, or worse, spinning itself further and further into the head as you tried to put the new plug in. It may be sitting low enough to contact the piston at TDC or fall into the cylinder. normally if you pulled the helicoil completely out, there would be nothing for the new plug to thread into at all. Check and see before you continue.

The forum software won't let me see page 2 when I'm logged so I'll post from memory.

I thought the insert might be broken in half also but if you look at his second picture I'm pretty sure you can see a flat machined surface on the bottom, not a jagged edge. I'm on a full size computer.

Also, aren't the helicoils actual coils of wire? His looks like a solid insert. You could probably guess the brand from the knurl pattern on the top surface.

Helicoil has both. Their spark plug inserts are the knurled, all I've seen. They have the wire coil type as well, used for bolt and screw. I couldn't get their plug inserts to hold in a weed eater...had to 266 it lol.

I can't find "cal-van 266" anywhere on the web. Am I missing something with the 266; I'm sure I'm missing something obvious and looking dumb, but not finding anything.

Pretty sure he meant Loctite 266. Most people call it red loctite.

Cal Van is the thread repair kit company.
