What motor do you have? The 4.6 it's an 8.8 reverse in the front and regular 8.8 in the back. 5.4 is the same in the front but the rear is a 9:75.

Ik that much but I want to get a locker for my front but every site I go to doesn't tell you if it's for the front so I was wondering if the rear 8.8 carrier is the same as the front

WOW! Can that work? One axle driving its wheels at one speed and the other axle at another speed. Sure sounds like a struggle to even get going.

C'mon guys, both axles have to have the same ratio or another ratio splitter in the transfer case. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes 9.75 in the rear and 8.8 in the front is very common. My 03 FX4 came with this.

8.8 and 9.75 is the diameter of the ring gear, not the axle ratio. It is where the axle gets its name.

Heck, 8.8 and 9.75 are not even available gear ratios.

Front 8.8 is reverse cut and 28 spline axles with a 3/4" cross pin. Rear 8.8(if that what you got) is standard rotation, 31 spline axles with a 7/8" cross pin.

What size tires are you running? What type of locker you thinking of going with?

The 8.8 in the front is very similar to the 8.8's used in the rear of the mustangs and rangers. I have a Detriot tru trac up front. The only reason is because IFS doesnt like tru lockers it will break a axle shaft or even crack the right front extension housing when loaded. Been there done that. its not pretty.
