Default what psi to run?

I just got a new set of tires, 285 70 17 cooper discoverer atr's and the max psi on the side says 65, the guys at the tire shop put them at 35 psi (i think they looked at the door jamb sticker which says 35 for stock 265s) and they were bulging pretty good at the bottom, so i filled them up to 40 and they look a little bit better but i don't want to run them low and wear the sides out or run them to high and wear the center, so does anyone run this tire and if so and what psi?

like i said in my post the side says max psi is 65, just because it says the max is 65 that doesn't mean you run it on max, the tires are on a f150 not a tank, theirs no need to fill them to 65 psi.

I've ran Michelin LT265/75R16E 80psi rated tires on a 92 F250HD at 35 psi for years with a little bulge in the sidewalls and they wore flat across the tread throughout the life of the tire. A little bulge doesn't hurt.

My P265/75R17 Michelins rated at 35psi bulge a little at 32psi and I've had these on the F150 SCREW for 6 years now and they are wearing flat across the entire tread.

If you really want to know how much air to run put a chalk mark on the tire and drive straight just a little ways. If the chalk is gone in the center you need less air. If the chalk is worn on the outside you need more air.
