Default What in the heck is this?!?

Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of this hanging weight located right before my catalytic converter? Is it just for balancing and if so what?!?

The clamp used to secure it to the exhaust pipe is completely rusted allowing it swing back and forth and clink against the frame.

It's your muffler bearing.

Just cut it off and replace it with a clamp.

Haha, but really what exactly is it? Are you saying I can just replace the whole assembly with a clamp?

Mine was on a joint. That's why I mentioned the clamp. It's some kind of harmonic vibration elimanator thingey. Supposed to eliminate the vibration from the exhaust.

Maybe THAT was the thing causing an odd, unexplained vibration in my F150. (just above idle)

Cut all that old rusted crap out of there and run a nice catback system.

It was put there to reduce NVH (noise, vibration, harmonics) and really does nothing. Cut it off and either have your exhaust welded or pop a clamp on and go!
