I have the flowmaster original 40 SI/DO heres a vid thatll give you a good idea. Its relatively quite at low rpms, but sounds like a monster when you stomp it.

I had both on my 97 f150 "4.6 thought" They installed the 44 first and I took it home and it was not loud enough for me... Don't get me wrong, it sounded good but I wanted to sound better so I had them switch it out for the 40 and I was way more pleased with the 40. Sounds awesome. Also look into the flowmaster 10 single chamber. Awsome sound. I'll go make a vid now

If your stuck on only a flowmaster then i'm gonna suggest with some of the others, the 10 series, or Super 10, whichever its called lol. Pretty much as loud as your gonna get with still getting a good sound. Other than taking cats off and such. But if you do decide you want this muffler, do some price shopping against the Cherry Bomb Extreme muffler, they're practically the same. I have no clue which is cheaper, i know the Extreme has been out longer, i've had mine since 2006, VERY pleased with it. And the super 10 is the Flowmaster equivalent. Good luck

The original 40 gets quiet under hard acceleration and is only loud at cold start and idle.it's loud before it shifts gears and if your goin up a overpass on cruise control.it's really really quiet if u have stock cats.if u want it to be any amount of loud ur gonna have to delete your rear cats.they do have a nice tone and a deep growl under strain.
