97-98 have no white lights on the third brake light either if this pic is correct.

Well..we, the 97-98 f150 community forgive you for wanting to go to the darkside. Yes, really, It's okay, we forgive you! This time... The only important difference is, the 97-98s are better. Ps, my 98 f150 does have white on the third brake light.

Its actually the 04 Heritage Xl that came with a solid red third brake light. It was meant to be the cheapest line. Specifically for Mexico. 97-03 have cargo lamps as standard even in XL's.

Yes, the super crew and step side trucks tail lights changed. In my 97's, there is a red light on top and the bottom, and the my reverse light is in the middle of them while in my 01, the two reds are together and the reverse is on top.

Default 97-98 vs 03

If it is a three door the '97 & '98 body'e are in a class of their own. When Ford went to the Scab '99 they change the body a bit. If you don't think so look at the differences in the steps available. '99 forward steps won't fit a '97 - '98.
Mfg's of steps don't make steps for the '97 - '98 anymore.
Isn't that interesting...
