Default Well, crap!

My 02 has been destroying the #3 coil over the past couple of years. Finally got it looked at and it turns out that the spark plug hole has been compromised, allowing heat to escape and melt the rubber around the coil. Dang. So short of replacing the head, anyone got any solutions for a fix? Even if it's just temporary?

Picture of the spark plug hole ...

2002 XLT 4.6
Thanks.

Can't really see it very well.. that pic is only a step above a potato.

You may be able to use a Timesert or Calvan insert. Hard to tell though... got a better pic?

#2 is one of the easier to repair....20 min if your seasoned and have the right stuff.

EDIT: wait, he said #3. That one will take a little longer....still not bad.

A little more details? What do you mean by "right stuff?"

Interesting. Never had to use anything like that before. Is it fairly easy?

Youtube it... find the easiest to follow for you. The kits are pricey, especially the Timesert. But it's your best shot at it.

Check Auto Zone, some have them for that free loaner program deal.

Thanks for the speedy replies, guys. This and the forum for my Pontiac Solstice are the best car forums I've ever been on. Always great advice and quick responses.

To get off cheap, you need a little of luck. The Zone here has the Time Sert kit to use freely. You purchase the inserts. They don't have the Big Sert kit though. You most likley don't require that one.

Not all Auto Zones have them...that's where luck come into play.

You can also check around local 3rd party auto supply shops for a rental. Focus on the shops with a machine shop. Privet shops or Carquest and Napa might have one they'll rent you.
