Hello all,
New to this forum but have used the abundance of info over and over.
I have a 1997 F150 w/ 4.6 V8, 5 speed manual trans and manual shift transfer case. Yesterday while sitting in some stop and go traffic, I went to hit the accelerator and had nothing in all gears. Like my clutch went out suddenly. I limped over to the side of the road. Once stopped, I put it back in gear and it took off. Except the rear wheels only, were in 4WL. I drove home on side streets at about 20 MPH. Got it home and started inspecting things. I can't see anything on the surface. Had a friend shift the transfer case and the lever is moving back and forth just as it should.
If I shift to 4WH the light on the dash comes on and the front diff engages but it's still in 4WL. Same with shifting into 4WL then the low range light comes on.
Is this a broken shift fork?
Again, transfer case is stuck in 4WL. Front wheels not engaged and I can shift the transfer and make the front wheels engage.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

 

I just pulled the shift linkage from the transfer case. If I shift the lever by hand it doesn't have any slop or play. It feels like it is clicking through the gears but still no change. Still outputting 4WL to the rear wheels.
