I mean I've never had my engine caked with mud but I would never wash it down with a hose. At the most I would wipe it down with a rag that had some simple green or something similar on it. Seems like its worth the extra effort to not cause electrical problems, which can be a major b*tch to track down

Ya you shouldn't pressure wash your engine unless you put the Time in to cover all the important electronics with plastic bags and then use compressed air to blow the water out.

The best is to remove everything you can and clean it on the bench and then well that stuff is out wipe away everything else.

Use a garden hose and and some degreaser. Just to pressure force water into places with more pressure than a hose bibb.

I regularly stuff a pressure washer or steam cleaner up and down there and haven't yet had a problem, even when I drive out into -30c air.

I washed mine today. I sprayed it with a hose then soaked it in simple green then let it sit for a minute and sprayed it all down. Then did it again use a scrub brush and scrubbed the real bad stuff. Then after that I dried it and then sprayed some black magic on top and wiped it down for that shiny look. It looks great but guess what water or something got into one of my coils an I have an awful rough idle. So now I have to spend 300 bucks and spend 3 hours fixing the freekin thing. So I will never spray it down again.

Washed mine several times with a garden hose and some "Simple Green". Always make sure that my engine is cold and try not to hose electrical stuff alot. Let dry and spray tire foam(not the shiny stuff) on everything for the "brand new" look.
