Look @ the TR Code in the VIN Sticker on your 98. "U"=4R70W "E"=E4OD

Look @ the Identification Sticker located on the Left Side of the Tranny case.
The 2nd set of code is the Tranny Model.

How is it possible that I put an e4od in it? Everything is the same except it will only drive in first gear?

Did you reset the PCM? It could be applying the old settings learned from the old tranny.

After accelerating using 1st gear can you feel the engine brake when you release the throttle? Can you hear the whine noise?

What happens if the gear is in Drive @ WOT?

Try shifting it manually, accelerate starting from the 1st gear, shift it to 2nd, shift it to drive.

Yeah, that's enough. Read the updated post above..

Does the Engine RPM increase a little when you tap on the brake? Do Engine RPM decrease about 5 secs. after releasing the brakes?

When I put the shifter in 2nd it's in second gear. Is it supposed to be? Thought it started out in first. Anyways, yes the engine is braking an there is a wine. I put the transfer case in neutral and revved it in drive. The engine bogs down when it shifts to second gear almost seems like it tries to shift to 3rd then pops into neutral. After doing that...it will now drive slowly in 2nd but too much throttle makes it bind and locks the wheels up. Tranny was getting hot too

Il be able to check this in about 45 minutes. Haven't checked if it is an e4od yet. Doubting it though

Yes the engine rpm increases when tapping brake pedal. Decreases 5 seconds after released

One issue is that I'm running it in my driveway which is only 50 yards long. Don't want to lock up the tires on pavement

Since the Tranny is trying to ship to another gear the TPS is working.

If it's overheating the pump is damage. When mating the Engine to the Transmission if the Torque Converter is not seated properly it will hit the Flex Plate..

If the Tranny is 4R70W

Even with the transmission connector Disconnected, some gear ranges are still available in manual ranges because the circuits opened provide redundant passages to shift valves and apply components.

These passages are independent of the solenoid-controlled passages

It will not Overheat if the pump is working.
