Default Vacuum box on intake?

What's the black box next to the throttle body connected to the intake. I know it's a vacuum line but what's it actually called? And what's it's purpose? Has anyone removed it?

If you're talking about with I think you are I've heard it's like a sound dampening chamber to cut down on the noise the air makes through the iac. It can be quite noisy without it. I don't think it's considered vacuum since it's upstream of the throttle valve and iac valve.

I'll try to get a picture of it. I ask because I bought a used k&n intake. It fits on my truck but it needs motivation, one of the problems is this little black box is getting jammed up and bent outta shape to fit the intake. So I was wondering if it could just be removed.

Haven't been able to get out to my truck but here's a decent picture... it's the little black box connected to the intake on the right side just before the throttle body. in the middle of the picture.

Yeah, that's exactly what he was talking about. I think it was used to prevent noises/whistling. I would bet someone like Jbrew or AKdoggie would know for sure.

Mine doesn't have that. I think mine is a small round canister that is far less obtrusive.
