Default upping mpg

Oky so I uses the search and found out that I can put a cold intake and up my MPG but what else can i do? I have been reading about tuners but I don't want to destroyand tranny or anything because this is my DD. Options I thought

E-fans
Bigger TB
Tuner
Brands on any or all would be helpful

I don't have much money but I can save. It will be going on a 2002 f150 5.4l fx4 with 315 17 r 17. And going to be cranking keys with next few weeks.
Thanks for all the help ahead of time

hmm.. well i can tell you this: DONT BUY A C.A.I!! there is only one system that truly delivers colder air into your engine and thats the airforce 1 system... a mere 350 bucks.. no thanks lol. the factory intake is the second best, just do a gotts mod and hollow out the silencer.. that, coupled with a k&n, is in my opinoin the best intake because your filter is sealed and your pulling fresh air from your fenderwell. thats all i can really help with, but im interested to see where this goes, as im looking for more m.p.g.s as well, and am considering a tuner.

I heard you can get to much torque to it. O could be wrong. If ya thibg a tuner would be worth it then which one like brand wise?

edge makes a great tuner. the cs. you can find them new on ebay for way cheaper than the website. it also has great guages built into the tuner to monitor vitals like intake air temp and tranny temp. spark advance and tons of others. and a tuner will not destroy your tranny. your only gaining like 25 horse max and about 2-3 mpg. as far as i know the ford lightnings ran the same tranny as our trucks and theyre well over 400hp and they do just fine

I have a 4.6l with shorty headers, 3" exhaust, k&n cai, hypertech programmer and 4.10 gears and all that really helped with my gas mileage, also i put a bed cover on my truck and that saves me a solid 1-2 mpg on highways. I dont know exact numbers but id say 18mpg city and 22-23mpg highway. A flex-lite electric fan will give you an extra 1-2mpg and a couple extra ponies too thats next on my list, it cost like $400 but im sure itll pay for itself within a year or so. a bigger throttle body wont really help your gas mileage your mainly just gonna feel it at WOT. And programmers dont hurt your tranny most of em even have settings for firmer and cleaner shifts, mine does which i love. just remember when you buy truck parts 'you get what you pay for' so dont be afraid to spend a lil extra on nicer brands itll def be worth it at the end

The tuner will not destroy a tranny. Driving habits do that.

It adds a little extra torque and power. If you use that power to smoke the tires or launch it from every stop sign, sure. Get ready to buy a new tranny.

The K&N CAI is not air tight. Hot air from the engine compartment can get around the shroud, but I'm sure you get a decent amount of cold air as well. Big thing is the K&N cone is able to take in a lot more air than the stock filter. You can notice a little more power and it sounds cool when you open the throttle. Didn't really notice a difference in gas mileage.

The gots mod is also a good mod and nearly free. Just should buy a K&N filter or something like it to replace the stock for better air flow.

When you combine these mods with a programmer and custom tunes, that's when you get the most out of them.

Your math might be off with the tires that aren't stock for example if your odometer reads 200 your tires have really gone 250 depending on your tire size talk to a7x he has the formula for it
