Default Ugh. Going nuts. Help with shift linkage

Hello everyone. 97 F150 XLT Supercab. Just ripped it apart and replaced the heater core, blend door and actuator. I noticed that when I removed the steering g column the linkage cable was broken at the column. So I replaced it. Put it all back together and now 2 things. My shifter is really tight switching from park to any other position and my steering wheel don't lock any more. Any ideas?

I do now have heat that would melt my face. Thank god.

Wrong shifter cable. Most parts stores list 3 different length cables. Take the new one out and compare to old one. I went through the exact same thing. Broke mine changing heater core.
I think the part # is y-789.
