Default U joint

I think I have a u joint going bad. If I hit 55 or over and let off the gas I get a bad vibration and I hear a squeak that I think is my u joint. Help.

yep more than likely its ur U joint i inspect both of them in the rear and then change if needed one way to tell its done is to move your drive shaft around and if it changes its alignment then yeah change that u joint easist way to move your driveshaft is a prybar of some sort

So basically see if I can move it around by sliding it on the u joint? And how hard are they to change? I don't have a press or a vise but I do have the normal tools you work with.

yes try to slide within the ujoint itself. with only basic tools it would be a pita that being said is there anyway possible to get yourself to a vice and use a bigger socket on the one side and then use a smaller side on the other to push the u joint out one side at a time and just remove the cap and then pretty much do the same on both the driveshaft and the yoke

Looked at them and look pretty bad. Someone told me I would have to heat them up to get them put is that true ?

not necessarily it will be easier to do with heat but i have never used it to change them and i have changed quite a few of them for the army on alot of hmmvw's (hummers as you would know them) anyways its easiest to do with a bench vise take a smaller socket to push just the Ujoint to the opposite side and take a bigger socket on the other side for the cap of the other side to slide into and doh almost forgot make sure to remove the ring clips on the inside of the driveshaft and yoke those are what hold the caps in and on the Ujoint. just do that on both the yoke and the driveshaft and you will have it out now for the install take one cap off the Ujoint make sure you don't lose any of the roll pins on the inside now take that cap and either yoke or driveshaft and install that cap into the mounting ring now take the other cap off the other side of the ujoint and then install the cross portion into the other cap and yoke or driveshaft whatever you happened to start with now once you do that install the new ring clip that should come with the Ujoint next take the other cap and put it on the opposite ring and squeeze them together in order to fully install the ujoint onto whatever you started with then just repeat the porcess until you complete the job hope that helps
