Wouldn't it be easier to replace the missing piece?
I
Typically if you remove something you're going to have a paint
shadow show where it was due to fading from sun exposure, or even the adhesive permeation into the paint layer.
Anyone removed the trim along the bottom outside of your truck along the doors/bed? Im missing a piece and debating on taking it all off.
If you're talking about the plastic/rubber guards that are on the doors, plenty of people take them off to clean up the body lines. I just took mine off this last year (14yr old truck) and have no issues with paint fade or residue. You can even tell the truck had them in originally... not all are lucky like that and I think white is more forgiving in that aspect.

Fixed that for you.
I'm a little confused: "...trim along the bottom outside of your truck along the doors/bed." There is no (factory) trim along the bottom of the doors/bed. Now, the door guards fordguy2100 mentions are about a third of the way up from the bottom.
I would never take them off. Those pieces look like hell close up, but my doors don't have a ding in them. They look good on the truck IMO.
I took one off to work on the cab corner. Was PITA , even with a heat gun, then all that sticky adhesive, it took awhile without an eraser handy. It goes back on in 2 minutes, if that. That's the easy part lol.
Not really a junkyard pick item...unless you hammer and chisel one off lol.
Yeah, I'd either leave it or find a new one. I had one missing on my Ranger when I bought it, and I searched high and low to find one in good shape - and the same color. Never happened, LOL. I wound up just putting on the closest one I could get my hands on. All 3 were a little different in color.... should have painted them, but oh well.

I don't mind them on, but do think the truck's lines are better without them. Of course, door dings don't look great, so.....
Neither my '99 nor my '03 had/has them, but I had to remove a set from the "new" doors I got for the '99 after it had an argument with a road sign one slippery winter day.
ROFL - How could you do such a thing White ? That's despicable. Hell, a cheap can of Barbecue Black SP from the dollar store would have at least color coordinated for you.
I tried to on my '97 F-150 but the paint was so faded I put the piece I pulled off back on. I took them off on my '06 F-250 and haven't looked back. They do protect your truck, however we're all about looks over function here, right?
Just be patient, use a hair dryer and fishing line and you should be good.

..
They don't look terrible with them off. They crowd the lower body line yes, but Imho these trucks look better with them in place. Not drastically, but better.
In 99, they quit using the moldings on the bed. I'm not sure why, but it didn't affect the looks either way. My opinion anyway.
