Angry Transmission or what?

I have a 99 f150 5.4 and I'm wondering if my problem is a transmission problem or something else. When I put my truck in reverse it is fine. But once I put it into drive I have to rev my truck up for it to more or less "catch" and start driving. The problem has recently got worse where it slips out of gear while driving and at stop signs then I have to rev it up again and it will finally catch and go into gear and drive. If I rev it up too much it will jerk the whole truck making the tires squeal. I wanna kno if anyone knows anything about this problem. I recently turned off my over drive and now the problem only happens when I shift out of park or reverse. But like I said reverse still works fine.

Try down shifting to 2nd then 1st when stopping. But thats just to help mediate the problem.

Hows the trans fluid level?

if it slips out of gear when you drive, then the tranny is shot.
