Default transmission temp

I just hooked up my sct livewire and im watching my transmission temperature and its running around 190 but if I gas it it will get up to around 205. I have a 02 4x4 with 4r70. These are without any load on it. I do have 33" tires on but that seems high to me

That's way too high. Few things you can do here.
-
Clean the cooler on the front of your truck
-
Flush the tranny (along with torque converter)
-
Upgrade (or if you don't have one, install..) The Super Duty trans cooler (write up is in this section) and it drastically lower temps.

That cooler (if equipped) is oooooooold. I believe they gunk up over time. What's the fluid level? Any slippage or not wanting to shift on acceleration? What's the tranny history?

Fluid level seems ok. One of the lines going to the radiator appears to have a leak in it it's the rubber line I guess it's from too much pressure. If it's gone up that should be it I'm going to try a tranny flush and new filter and ee if that takes care of it

What was the air temperature outside?

On a hot day, 225 or over is when you need to worry. 205 is within the normal range. You can change your fluid and see if that helps.

Another vote for changing the fluid, - make sure your running 100% synthetic. Good fluid is worth the cost IMO. I use the Amsoil stuff and can't believe how much just that alone lowers temps.

I flushed it 100%, - back-flushed the OEM filter as well...with compressed air.

Ok so this weekend im going to chang my filter and fluid. Should I run a tranny flush first? How do I really drain the whole system. I remember seeing a YouTube video about pulling off one of the lines and running the engine to drain the torque converter. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Yea, you pull the return line, - use a bit of new fluid to flush. I believe I used a make shift valve to control the flow, but it was awhile ago lol. So yea, either do a little more research or perhaps someone will post up here.

You'll never get all the oil out of the transmission, but dropping the pan, filter, and espicaly draining the torque convertor will be a damn good start. Make sure not to cheap out on good oil, that will make a night and day difference.
