From what I have read in other posts, there is a filter inside but you have to drop the pan to change it.

I think it is one of those jobs that is a case of being careful and not rushing it and you should be fine.

I'm sure others will be along to help soon

Very easy.

Drop the pan,
Looses one side first so the oil drops out controlled.

You just pop the oil filter off it's housing and reinstall new one.
Use a new gasket and re bolt.

Drain the converter, if you can, keep track of how much you have removed, and use the proper fluid. You should have no problems.

Bolt everything back up and fill from the trans dipstick tube in the engine bay.

On your truck, there should be a drain plug on the converter. Take off the cover and rotate the engine until it is at the bottom. Take the plug out, and let it drain. I would put 1/2 of the fluid in, before starting the engine, then keep checking, and filling until it's full. Run the shifter thru the gears, and check in P with the engine running.
