Default Transmission question

Would the 6r140 6 speed manual transmission out of an f350 bolt up to a 5.4 Triton? Would anything be needed to attach the 2? Thanks

It has the modular bolt pattern unless it came from a diesel so it should bolt to the engine but I think that would be the least of your problems. I don't know for sure but it sure looks like a much bigger transmission so I suspect tunnel issues will be involved. Also it has it's own adaptive learning module for operation. No clue about how this this would adapt to a 10th gen's electronics. As far as I know all 10th gen PCM's contain the transmission controllers. They don't have a separate module for the transmission. I quick search and I only came up with a stand alone controller for diesels. I didn't see any stand alone controllers beyond the 6r80 for gas.

the pcm of your truck isn't programmed to control a 6 speed transmission. and like river said the 6r140 is huge

Yeah, that thing is an auto. The manual trans has been gone in Ford trucks since it was killed off in the 2011 model year.

I may have gotten some names wrong. I'm looking at the 5 speed + low out of an 03 7.3. I currently have the 5 speed they bolted to the 4.2 and I'm planning on making a jump to a lightning that I would like to be manual. I know that supercharged 5.4 would shred the trans and rear of my current truck.

You will need a shift controller using the 6r80. PRI has a simple one but not cheap Thats for starters or you can buy a harness and controller and spend more money. Either way its gonna be a rough ride on the wallet

Fair enough. I’m just not sure how well this will work. The diesel ZF trans is a real clunky (for lack of a better word) piece with a really heavy clutch last I remember driving a 7.3 truck. I’m not sure it shares a Triton bellhousing pattern and you’re not going that fast that quickly with one behind a Lightning engine anyway. You might pull stumps really well if that’s the idea, though.

A T56 6-speed would be WAY better, IMHO.

I would also find a 5.4 truck that needs an engine (should be cheap these days) and start with that. Much less part swapping compared to a 4.2 truck and an 8.8” rear.

The parts to build your M5R transmission for more power than you're looking at are available through Mazda Motor Sports Japan (MMS). The problem is a completely different parts numbering system there as compared to here. There are MMS offices in the US which may be able to help you with this though. IIRC the ability to build the transmission for up to 800 hp and similar torque can be had. You can even get an entirely new transmission with an interchangeable bellhousing unlike what you can get here along with a number of other options with things like shift controls. Expensive yes but what you're looking at now is also but these will fit right in unlike what you're looking at. IIRC the T56 will require a new driveshaft and yokes. I think it's the PBS MDR-1 transmission here but you'll need to verify this:
