Default Transmission Question

Hey guys looking at getting an 00 SuperCrew 4x4 with a bad trans, do you know if a 2wd trans will work in a 4x4?

You'd have to switch output shaft and tail shaft that's a lot of work probably just cheaper and easier for the right trans

Well I can get the 2wd trans for $300 and its only got 47,000 miles. Came out of a Harley-Davidson edition that was totaled and a buddy bought it so it might be OK to take the time and do it. I'm in no rush as it isn't going to be my daily driver, just didn't know how hard it would be

The problem with that is the Harley has a larger 4r100 and your super crew has a 4r70w.
So not only are you trying to swap to a different trans that will take a lot of other parts to complete your also trying to make a 2wd trans into a 4x4 trans, this would take a almost a complete disassembly and reassembly with the 4x4 tail shaft and all new gaskets!

So your actually creating more cost for yourself then if you just found the correct transmission or rebuilt the worn trans that came in your truck.
Good luck

I wasn't aware that the Harley F150 had the 4r100, thought those were only in the 3/4 and 1 tons. Looks like it'll be a trip to u pull it then. Thanks!

Ya they do. It's because they were supercharged that they needed a bigger trans.
No prob!

your 98 has a E4OD. Which is similar to the 4R100.

Only way it has a 4R100 is if its a F250LD. Otherwise it has a E4OD, which is similar to a 4R100 but has aluminum sprag gears.
