shift forks are for the 4x4 on the front axle. And I think the f250 ld's had 5.4's.

I "think" he's asking about the forks in the transmission. I'm pretty sure they can be accessed from inside the cab. Simply unbolt the shifter plate from the top of the tranny and the forks should come out as an assembly with the shifter. I haven't had a manual apart in over 20 years so I could be completely wrong.

wait also I don't think 4.6's had Manuals either.. Do they? I've only seen 4.2's with 5 speeds. And f250 ld's were 4R100's or the E4OD's

I think your right about the 4.2 being the only engine with the manual.

I promise it is a 98 4.6 5 speed 4x4 my dad bought it brand new. And yes I'm talking about the shift forks in the top half of the trans. I have taken the shift tower completely out but didn't know if I could take the top plate off and get it out of the way enough to see in there. Not a lot of room.

If I knew how to post pics I would show you what I'm talking about with the shift tower and prove the truck is what I say it is just to get all curiosity out of the way. The issue I'm having is I was driving 1 day not using clutch and went from 1st to 2nd and the gear shift laid back on the seat I hit gas motor reved so I hit clutch went to third and then forth which was really hard even with clutch. Drove home in forth and parked it. Sometimes I can go start it make sure it's in what neutral normally is and let out on clutch it takes off but not every time I've completely lost 2nd I think. When it warms up I lose other gears and it seems like something is bent cause the gears come and go and are all out of wack.

I'm not using the app but I'll find it and post some pics tomorrow. But if you take the bolt out at the bottom of the shifter in the cab then there is I think 4 screws and then the shift tower comes out. It has nylon business in it and a metal tail that runs down into the top of the trans. But I wanna get that top plate off and I believe it has 8 bolts in it. I'm just curious if it can be removed withe trans still bolted up and without cutting floor board.
