Default transfercase problems. think you got the answer?

1) the plug that goes into the transfer case motor should i be able to put a test light or volt meter? If so what numbers should it read?

I put a test light on it and it doesnt light in 4wd or 2 wheel.

2) if i have the shift motor off i should be able to see it move right? Cause i cant. It wont move unless you pull the cylinder that houses the coil and magnets off and then turn it with a screw driver.

I have so much i could say but well see if anyone answers first

Thanks

What percentage of transfercase problem cases is the gem the culprit? Is it more common then the motor going bad? And shouldnt there be other problems too since the gem is linked to everything? The only other thing that i can think of thats wrong with my truck is the digital odometer doesnt light up all the time. It flicks on and off every once in awhile.
