Default Heat is luke warm

I have a 1997 F150 Extended Cab 5.4 liter

What would cause my heat to be luke warm? I can adjust the dial from cold to hot and when I turn it to hot it never really gets hot ONLY warm no matter how long we ride around for.

What can I check to see what the issue may be? There is not any water on my floor so can I assume it is not the heater coil? Can it be as simple as a fuse?

Thanks in advance

for the cheap $$ I would replace your thermostat... That's most likely your problem

How is the coolant level? If it's low, heat is affected. I know that sounds stupid, but less coolant will flow through the heater coil and thus less heat.

coolant level is fine , I will check the thermostat

I thought the thermostat was working fine since the gauge in my dash moved from C to almost the half way mark????

Is the thermostat difficult to change out? I did one way way way back in the 70's and it was pretty much two bolts and a gasket

Do I drain the radiator first or can it be changed full?
