Default Trans Swap

Trans Swap. Howdy. I have a '02 4.6L and also found a '04 Heritage with a 4.6. Will the trans swap ok? My trans is ok and doing great....just thinking ahead. Note...the heritage is the parts truck.
Thank you

Automatic or manual? I like to use Rockauto to see compatibility. It implies that the auto wil but the manual won't. Don't know why that would be.

Not necessarily. You will need to check the number on the transmission to make sure. It will work if AT has a 1L3P code, but not a 4L3P code. The 4 is the updated transmission with the different speedometer reading. You can not use the 4L in place of a 1L.

Thanks AKdoggie. I got all this noted and have to crawl under the truck to see what the code is. Don't need to swap now...just thinking ahead.

They will not. The internal speed tone is different. The speedo will be showing 60 mph at 20 mph road speed. UNLESS,, it is a very early "04. Yours should have 1 speed sensor and the '04 should have 2. The 2nd one is hard to see,, right above the manual linkage and neutral switch.

This is why we stated you have to use the correct one. lL3P is the first tone ring design. 4L is the second design.

I have yet to crawl under the truck and look for those tags. It's parked on some gravel, so jacking may not work too good. I don't want to get crushed and miss out on my Christmas present. I know those tags will be mighty hard to find. Thank y'all for the info on this.

The tag will be on the passenger side, right behind the catalytic converter, just so you can;t see it.

Crawled under truck today. On pass side, on the tailshaft housing, stamped into the metal, is:
RF-F3LP-7A040-AA
47A
Ain't seen no tag, and will need to jack up and get a mirror to see up higher.
Is this info of any significance ?
This off a '04 Heritage F-150, 2 WD with a 4.6L engine. Automatic trans.

And thanks for the info on the tag whereabouts. I know where to look later !

That # simply means it's an "03 or later. That tail housing may fit multiple vehicles with that trans.
