I have a 2000 5.4 auto and if you have read my other 2 threads you would know i have a ticking sound. When its in park or neutral and rev i cant hear the noise, but when i put it in drive i can when i rev. That got me thinkin it was my tranny, when i checked the fluid after it had been sitting all day the fluid came all the way up to the top of the marker. Cold level is real close to the bottom. My question is, could i be hearing this noise because there is way too freakin much fluid in the tranny? Can too much fluid damage anything? its going to get changed shortly for the 120k mile maintenance anyways.
any help is greatly appreciated

A ticking noise heard while under a load could be an exhaust leak, and these engines have exhaust manifold problems. I overserviced my tranny a little and it has been fine, but if the level never goes over the high mark it is not overserviced.
That sounds way too high! It shouldn't be out of the cold/hot range as required. Overfilling the tans will cause damage as fluid can't drain properly and this causes pressure issues and slipping, etc.
Get a good length of PVC tubing and siphon some out.

Like I said, get a good long length of flexible PVC tube that you can siphon some out with.
Take the dipstick out, feed the tube down the dipstick hole and start a siphon to drain some out. The tube will have to be long enough to go from the pan, up the dipstick tube, loop over the fender and reach the ground.
Alternatively, if your truck has a transmission cooler, you could disconnect a line to the cooler and start the truck and let about a quart pump out. If you have an empty oil bottle or ATF bottle, you could put the line down into the bottle and use it as a catch can and measuring device.
