Default Traction problem? or transmission?

Question: I have a 2000 Ford F150 V8 4x4 (71000 mi)- in the past two weeks when I start forward from a stop, usually on a hill - but not always (like just pulling into a parking space today), I feel a rumbling - as if I am trying to get rear traction on gravel but tire spinning feeling. It doesn't happen every time - but is getting worse. It doesn't happen when I am in reverse backing up my big hill of a driveway, only going forward, and usually up hill. Before I take it to the mechanic I'd like to have some ideas.

Bit of a shot in the dark with out a little more history but I'd say clutch pack, best guess.

If it does it more when you're pulling out and turning, sounds like clutches in the rear. If it does it all the time, whenever your pulling out, possible trans shudder.

Sounds like the clutch packs are out on the limited slip

Thanks for the clutch pack suggestions. I will get it checked out next week. It is an automatic - and I hadn't noticed until mention by folks responding - but it is when I'm turning the wheel. THANKS.
