If it was a Bronco with a M5R2 5 speed, I could see that because Ford had a bad habit of putting weak clutches in the trucks to keep people happy with pedal pressure. All OE M5R2 clutches are rated to 3500 lb trailers. Aftermarket clutches can be found for 8,000 lbs for nearly the same price. Don't like it when automatics can out pull a standard...
If my 97 f150 4x4 4.6 Romeo at that time had 220,000miles on it can pull this 400+ miles on an interstate then ur 5.4 can pull that 2500lb tractor.
