I think maybe he'd never heard the term before, and was surprised that "bump steer" is an exact description of what he's experiencing.

Most likley, -it's an easy google. It was more common with big lifts, big tires. Guys would usually solve the with dual stabilizer set ups.. With a somewhat original set up, could be anything from broken links = sway bar probs to the usual, upper control arm bushing. Gear box could easily be the culprit as well...if it's not right. There is some adjustment there. However, the new gear box could be absolutely fine,- enhancing other problems (worn parts) that the previous did not. And for the reason that front end parts wear together to some extent. I'd jack it, go through the wobble checks and have someone turn the wheel while eyeballing the joints. Hell, it could be a bad bearing. Does it road straight.. If you need two lanes to get from a to b, there's clue to be had. Check it thoroughly...they are there.

Maybe what he has is different than what I thought he was referring to.... my Expy takes WAAAAY less effort to turn the wheel than the F150, and it is really annoying. I don't get bump steer from it.... just way too easy to turn for my liking. It seems that the turning ratio is different, and also a lot tighter turning radius.

no I have never heard of that. never had problem like this . I have never drove a vehicle with such touchy steering. I looked under the front and inspected my upper and lower arms on both sides they appear to have been replaced recently as well as the steering column.

I'm more to the thought of it being an alignment problem. Nothing should throw you side to side, if the alignment is correct. That's my thought.

True. Insufficient caster or some toe out will make it skittish.

Bad toe will make these truck do all kinds of weird crap. Idler arms and toe seem to be the worst culprits when it comes to walking all over the highway.

Okay, made your point, doesn't hold a spit of water really... - So, did you take the advice and Google it ? Quickest way to learn. By the sounds of it, your not into advice and act as though you were attacked. Yea, you would of at the very least learned something at this point vs your I never heard of it crap over over and again. Who knows, if you listen and follow through, you might even appreciate the help. Takes more effort on your part, less on the defense. Replace defensive with effort and it's a win win for a DIY'er.
