Default Torque conv drain plug?

Question is can you drill a hole and put in a plug to drain the majority of the trans fluid? I believe I remember seeing the guys on one of the weekend hot rod shows do it with the trans in the vehicle.

You may be able jollyroger but i would not risk drilling a hole in the torque converter. I know some ford tc have drain plugs. my 96 ford and my brothers 03 expy had drain plugs on the tq.

Yes you can drill and tap a hole for a drain plug. In most every tap and die set there is a 1/8th very short tap, that is a fine pipe thread tap and what you should use. It's tapered and so will the plug you get from any hardware store. DON'T use any Teflon tape or thread sealant, the taper will make the seal.

Thank for the responses. I am going to change fluid and filter and wanted to change as much of the old fluid as possible. I also didn't know that some of these trucks already have a plug. Thx again;-)

Thx, hoping I won't have to drill and tap. I haven't pulled the cover off yet to see if there is a plug.
