Default Tires

I am going to need some new tires before winter. I was wondering what size everyone on here uses. I dont need plus size tires just stock will do. The one on it now are 255-70/R16. Discount Tire says my 2001 F-150 with stock rims will need a 235-70/R16. I am aslo looking for brands. I want a tire that is quite in town and on the highway but is good for some snow in the winter. I know nothing about tires so all help is welcome. Thanks fellas.
