I used a 10mm wrench. It was slow going. A ratcheting gear wrench would be nice.

The one bolt is a huge pain in the butt. Seriously, when you put it back together, leave it out. Three bolts will hold that thing on there just fine.

I'm gonna have to do mine too. You guys have recommendations for a kit for me? The timing chain kit is all I need? Should I get lash adjusters and rollers? Any other parts?

2001 f 150 5.4 168,000 miles
Here's my info.

Im having my local shop do this. I only play a mechanic on tv and wouldn't dream of doing this one, lol. The shop told me go ahead and get the parts.

Thanks in advanced.

My personal opinion...I know there are cheaper kits out there but I dont want to have to go back in the engine again for quite some time so I will always use Ford phasers and etc..I've read extremely good things about FelPro and their gaskets and etc and so will always use them as well..but thisnisnwith my truck... I will give the customer the price on both and make sure they understand that by using lower quality parts they are taking a risk by doing so.

This is a TWO VALVE. There are NOT cam phasers on a 2V motor.

This is the kit, minus the sprockets, which you probably don't need anyway.

With that pic he posted of his vin, what motor is that. A V-6.

I don't mind at all him asking questions in my thread. But he needs to start his own so there is no confusion for him or others that follow. Some one maybe be giving info for the wrong motor.

A 5.4 is a V8, Cal. An "L" is a 5.4, and he also mentions it below his photo.
