Default Thoughts on new headers sound.

Hey guys, finally got around to putting on my shorty headers I picked up a while back. Pacesetter brand. Manifolds were shot and would keep getting shot so I figured I'd upgrade. Pros and cons:

Pros: very noticeable difference in power+tq, accelerates out of the gate really well. No problem chirping tires from a dead stop. Assuming gas mpg may be a bit better. Ignition seems to kick over better less strain.

Cons: actually quieter then exhaust with stock mannys 😕. Initial start is quieter doesn't have the loud kick back that I did when I had stocks on her. It just simply isn't as loud runs better but noticeable difference in tone when I start the truck and also when I gear down. And a CEL

Full setup is. Pacesetter headers. Maggy high flow cats. 2.5" y pipe into a maggy 1 in 2 out muffler with 3.5 inch tips. Getting a air intake to help with the tone. Thanks for reading guys cheers.

Congrats on your install. I don't believe the pro's, because it's not possible and has been proven so. But if it makes YOU feel better posting this sort of info, we aren't fooled that easy here.
I mean, you can't even tune shorties for performance. The ONLY possible gain is way up in the powerband (unusable HP for the most part) and it's not much, not even enough to warrant me saying so, but it's something I guess. Regardless, your butt dyno is off a bit...no offense, but your off a bit.

Nothing wrong with the install, just nothing to gain performance wise unfortunately.

2000/5.4,

I'm in no hurry but my driver's side manifold has a leak and I've wondered about the headers for the stainless steel. Did you just connect yours to the rest of the existing exhaust? If so did they mate up as easily as what the marketing is selling?

Agreed. We had a v6 2006 mustang that we had to replace the motor in due to having the oil pump go out. Put shorty headers on the motor and it actually felt slower off the line. Sounded better and looked cool with the headers but we went with stock manifolds and it seemed to drive better all around. Now I know that's a car vs a truck and a totally different engine but the same basics can be applied.

Its possible that the cats were partially clogged if there was any increase in performance. The HI- Flow cats do more than the shorty's did anyways.

right on well it does have more get up and go. I had my exhaust done a year ago minus headers and it was louder obviously but didn't feel the way it does now. I can even feel it in my pedal it's as if my truck is newer. And also I have been driving with a leaky manifold for quite some time so more torque that I'm feeling is likely from being so used to the leaky exhaust.

it's a pain in the *** man. You'll have to bend your pollution tube if you go aftermarket and I if I had the chance I would go to stock manifolds.
I got my headers for 250 tax in that's the only reason I went with them. Unless you have money for long tubes then I would not bother
