Trying to figure out what to sell to finance an engine build. lol
The engine block is going to a machine shop to find out how much $$ it's going to cost.
Thinking .030 over on the bore with flat top pistons, .020 under on the crank, it is already .010 under.
Found a kit with everything I need for under $400 Just hope the machine shop won't be too much.
I really want a set of aluminum heads, and more cam. But for now, I will run the cam I have and the stock heads, maybe upgrade down the road.
350 4-bolt main block.
.010 under crank that need to be ground .020 under.
7 cast pistons and one forged piston#8. 4 grams difference in weight !
Nasty groove.
So groovy!
This looks like it was done during assembly from a rod bolt !
you can feel all the lines with your fingernail.
Another nasty groove.
Nasty groove in a rod bearing.
The other 1/2 of the rod bearing.
Looks like some piston stuck to the cylinder wall.
All the vertical groves in the cylinders can be felt with a fingernail.
I gave this one a quick scuff with some 600 grit to see how deep the scratch was.
You can see where some moisture got in the engine and where the rings were sitting.
The main bearings are also worn.
The thrust bearing at the back of the engine where the heavy piston was.
Some of the bearing caps show copper in the grooves.
I also checked the deck, and it is not flat, so will be decking the block also.
Wow refundable exhaust parts....can't beat that.
(snippage)
When it's good just leave it alone...don't change a thing, am I right.
Testing out their lifetime warranty.
I'm moving to the 5x8x24 in hopes of increasing the sound level just a little bit. (The 5x11x22 was pretty much like stock, just deeper in tone.) The 18" might have been OK, but I didn't want to chance it.
Fun fact: there isn't a single mandrel exhaust bender in the state of Colorado.
Did I say fun fact? I meant bullsh!t.
I don't think there's much call for it any more. With so many pre-fabbed systems readily available, the custom stuff just doesn't seem to be needed as much as in years past. I've heard of a couple places way up north that still do it (5250 Performance in Longmont is one), but don't know anyone down here. Have you tried calling any of the performance shops like RMCR or Revolutions Performance for recommendations?
Colorado does have a "Thou shalt not modify any exhaust to make it louder" law, but obviously it's not enforced.

Doesn't make that much of dif anyway... if it's for the 150 anyway. There's just the one bad 90 really. Ford couldn't do anything about that one, to tight over there by the TC (4x4)...everything else is stretched.

Their answer is "it doesn't make that much difference" which, of course, is true for something like the 5.4L, but absolutely not true for a performance exhaust.
My F-150 still has the factory exhaust, and it looks like it was installed a few weeks ago, not 23 years ago. It's going to stay until it fails.

I called all over, and I think 5250 is one of the shops I called.
Nobody stocks stainless pipe either, and the reason is from a decade ago when CO didn't use salt.
Man... what a night. I slept like garbage. I really need to get over this cold. The F150 needs me, lol. I need to round up some paint for the core support. My brain is not up to snuff yet today. My paint code is RD or RC?
