Default thinking about installing a 3.73 LS

I have a 2003 Screw 4x4 5.4 with a 3:73 open diff and it is very irritating in snow even with tires that probably have less then 15,000 miles on them. How hard would it be to swap the axle out for a Limited slip? or just replacing the gears in the stock assembly

I don't see why it wouldn't be a direct swap. The only difference is what's inside the pumpkin. I have the same dilemma - my old truck with a LS was way more capable in normal driving.

I would highly recommend a detroit truetrac limited slip. I have one in my 2wd 4.6L and with 300lbs of sand in the bed and it makes a tremendous difference.

Just make sure to use conventional gear oil in the diff or you're cheating yourself on its capabilities. As for it being a direct swap: It was in my truck but mine also had a factory Limited slip. I think I remember reading non-LSD rearends need something added for it to work but not 100%

ehh I doubt it haha they are supposed to be the lowest maintenance. And I'd get a ford one not a aftermarket one ( cheaper probably )
