Default Theft System Questions

Hey guys, new here, lookin for some advice if anyone has some to lend on the issue. A friend of mine lost his keys for his '03 F-150. I'm aware how the PATS system works in theory. He doesn't want to take it to the dealership for $$ reasons. So my question is this: If we go to a junkyard and get a PCM, Cluster and ignition cylinder/keys all out of the same truck, this should allow him to start his truck again, correct? (haven't priced out either options, but we have a u-pick yard here in town, as well as several auto wreckers nearby) If i'm missing something in my theory, by all means point it out. Thanks in advance

I don't think that would be cheaper.

IF it were to be a cheaper option, would that theory work? or is there any other component that would have to be replaced with it?

the PCM may have to be flashed either way.

Check with local lock smiths. Most of the better ones can make the keys and program the truck. Also If there is more than a couple ford dealers in your area call and get prices. May not be as high as you think.

A locksmith should have the tech to program keys. Heck, the Ford dealer told me to go to a locksmith to have a key flashed. I'm thinking about getting another one as I only have one set of keys for the truck.

Thanks for the replies. Tried the locksmith, they said contact the dealership. Contacted the dealership, they said contact the locksmith. Going to have to try a locksmith from a larger city I guess. Any other suggestions more than welcome!

Jesus, I would find some better mechanics. I own my own NGS and IDS. I'm not at the dealer or a locksmith. I can program keys. I guess no one likes making the easy money. Some fords don't need a scan tool. Trick the system with only 1 programmed key.
