Default Theft mode

My 2003 heritage edition is showing theft mode. I'm not sure what to do now. Anyone be able to direct me as to what to do to get it back to normal.

It could be failing to read the keys embedded chip code. This can be caused by a bad transceiver ring, or another failure in the PATS system. Rarely it can be caused by a bad key. Does this happen for all of your keys or just one?

You need to read the codes to get the true failure diagnostic.

I only have one key. The code from the diagnostic tool the mechanic is using all refer to a lack of communication

The code is p1260 which refers to the anti theft system. The other code references you need 2 keys to program

The code tells you very little you can use for trouble shooting.
Turn the ignition to On only and wait a minute or two.
Watch the light for flashing a two digit code.
It will repeat several times. What do you see?
I can tell you what it means as a start for trouble shooting.

I can't answer your question. I gave up and took it to a mechanic. He is the one who gave me the code I posted

Default anti theft mode

A dying or dead battery can do it..at least it did me...I didn't think the battery was that bad but the mechanic replaced it and it's worked fine ever since. I know there are lots of other things it could be...that's just my story.

Thanks for the info. The battery had to be replaced. But still in a no start condition. I'm hoping we have tracked the issue to some bad wiring starting from the steering column. Hopefully this week everything goes well and we can get it fired up
