Will the tailgate from a 2002 or 2003 fit a 1997?

 

Anything from 97 - 03 is compatible with yours! Although there is a difference in the box - stepside or fleetside and the corresponding bumper and tailgate!

Look up the profile for Rus, he put a 08 (I think) superduty tailgate on his truck and it looks real good, just a suggestion!

 

yes superduty tail gates are also compatible, even the ones with the steps.

97-03 f 150s and Yes the 99-2011 superduty gates work perfect. Mine is an 08 with the step. From 2008-2011 you need to use a different gate mount on the left side ($10 part at dealer) as it is springloaded for ease of closing.

 

I think that I might end up putting one on my truck and how hard was it to install the left gate mount

 

Please post a pic of the lock mechanism from the SD gate. I'm shopping for a new gate now.

Had to sledge hammer my gate off because the mechanism had rusted so bad
