Default T-case stuck in low

I have a 2000 F150, v6, 5speed, 4x4. While driving today I suddenly lost power. Engine revs, but felt like it was in neutral. Checked shifter and it was still in fifth, and came out without pushing the clutch.... Then went back in with no clutching. Weird. So I coast into a parking lot and check under the truck... All looked good, so I tried to put it in first. No power to the tires. Check trans shifter, it's in 2wd. So I try 4wd, I figure at least I can get home on the front axle...... WOO HOO, it goes. But as I pullout onto the road I notice it's in low. 35mph max. So I try to shift into 2wd. Shifter moved, but when I try to take off, still in low. So I baby the truck home and crawl underneath and the linkage all looks good and moves like I think it should (pretty simple once you watch it move). So I guess something is broken inside my T-case. Anybody have any ideas (shift fork maybe?) and how hard is this T-case to disasemble.
Just as a reference, I have no fear tearing into an engine, but trannys sometimes scare me.
Is this case pretty simple inside, or would I be better off throwing in a junkyard case and not opening it up.

You have a jammed/broke shifter fork more than likely. If you feel like you can get in there and see what the problem is then I say go for it. If not find a used one...

Btw....is your manual 5 spd shifting fine now?

The tranny shifts fine. Only now I can take off from a stop in 3rd, then shift into 5th and max out at about 35mph.

Uuugggg, why do these things always happen when I don't have time. A couple of weeks ago I coulda taken my time and pulled the T-case and rebuilt it. Now I have about 18 hours to come up with a set of wheels for the next few weeks.

Yes your stuck in low lock....well I'd try getting it on the steepest incline you can and try to work it in and out (moving the shift lever) and just try to get it unlocked before you take it apart. I had that work for me once...it's a long shot but worth a try...

The T-case shift lever moves fine, its just not shifting, if i leave the lever in 2wd it'll work its way to neutral while I'm driving.

do you mean a steep uphill (nose up)
