straight pipe
i just bought a 2003 4/door lariat 2wd...first truck... i really wana straight pipe it.. should I? and is it something me and my buddies can do or should i have it done somewhere?
You can straight pipe it no problem, super easy. You'll probably need a hack saw or something, because the factory exhaust is all welded together. You can run to the local auto parts place and pick up a couple 2.5" straight pipes and some clamps and one adapter for the back 2.5" in-2.5" out. You should be able to do it in like 20 mins. I did mine by myself and it was easy.
Straight piping isn't going to offer you much other than more noise, and with the 4 factory cats, its still not that much noise. I wasn't happy with the popping that I got and how it wasn't that deep, so I just took off all of the exhaust from before the muffler back and put in a Thrush Welded in place of the stock muffler. Much nicer sound, very deep and smooth, and almost as loud as I want it.
BTW: The Thrush Welded is the same as the Flowmaster 40 series but for about 1/2 price.
Also, after any changes I would suggest unhooking the battery so that the computer can reset and learn its new operating parameters.
