Default Squeaking Accessory

Some accessory on my truck is squeaking (1997 4.2 2WD). It seems to be on the drivers side of the truck, which would leave the AC compressor or the power steering pump. The squeaking varies with RPM though I can't pinpoint it opening the hood. Any ideas? My guess is an AC clutch bearing. Thoughts on whether that is correct?

Let me know if you figure it out, I am having a simular issue. My noise changes with the AC compressor kicking on and off but the noise stays on the whole time. The noise will go away however when I am turning the steering wheel.

how many miles? , I just had to replace my serpentine belt at 90k, it was pretty nice and cracked up on the rib side and wouldn't stick to the pulleys very well, ide check for power steering leaks first too, look for red or green fluid or clear fluid around that area. (mine had red at first but runs clear now and seems to work a lot better)

You do realize Ford calls for transmission fluid for the power steering systems in these trucks right?

last week was my first time messing with power steering in a f150, autozone suggested Valvoline power steering fluid, I considered tranny fluid but idk at the time so I went with autozone. with all these modern innovation I didn't wanna put tranny fluid in there without knowing the outcome.

202,000! I replaced the belt 2 years ago at 175,000 and appears to be in good condition. The power steering fluid is full and there are no visible leaks.

Just had similar issue.. had a sequel during start up or at High RPM. After a year of repeatedly checking the same things over and over i finally narrowed it down to the fan area. Ended up changing the fan clutch noise gone. The fan was consistently on so the start up or high rpm was causing the belt to sequel. On a side note at some point someone put a 8cyl clutch on it so the extra weight of the fan was not helping.

Same thing here, I know my pulley is bad. Just pull on the serpentine belt and see if anything squeaks.

I had the same thought. Mine sounded like it had a bad power steering pump. Recently, while doing unrelated repairs, I wanted to replace the belt and hoses so while I was in there, I spun the pulleys by hand while the belt was off, and discovered rattling coming from belt tensioner pulley. Picked up a new one that I'll be installing tomorrow.
