Default speedometer question

my buddy has an 02 f 150 and the speedometer quit working can we just go to a salvage yard and get a cluster out of another 02? if so will the mileage be off or is that handled in the gem module? thanks guys!

Sorry to tell you, but you can't just go and get another cluster without having the dealer reprogram it to match with the PATS (Passive Anti Theft System). I would check to see if its really the gauge though, I've never heard of the speedometer going bad, more likely the speed sensor on the tranny.

One way to check whether its the gauge or the sensor is to put the cluster into test mode.

Heres a great link into how to do this...
