Default Speedometer Issue

My speedometer isn't working correctly on my 2003 Ford F150XLT 4x4 5.4L V8. The speedometer reads 100+ MPH in park until I am on on the interstate and starts working backwards. I understand that I have two speed sensors on my truck one on the rear differential and one on the transmission. I can't find what each exactly do, but the one on the diff is for ABS and other items. I cannot find anything on the transmission sensor. My vehicle is not showing any alarms. The odometer and cruise appear to be working correctly. Is this a instrument cluster issue?

The one on the transmission is on the rear output housing of the transfer case at the top. Have you tried giving the dash a smack? Occasionally mine just stops and that brings it back to life lol.

I have tried giving it a smack to no avail. Where does the speedometer get it’s measurement? I assume by reading the internet it's from the VSS on the rear diff. Is that correct?

I believe it's the one on the back of the transfer case, if it comes unplugged you have no speedo

Usually if the one on the trans is bad the cruise will not work correctly. My bet is a short in the actual speedo. You could junk yard one and try it.
