Speaker Size
I just fitted Alpine 6x8s front and rear to mine and it was a far easier job than I expected, though the center mounted tweeters in the rear doors touch the factory grille and I haven't worked out what to do about it yet...
You can put 5x6's or 6x8's but do the 6x8's there louder and sound alot cleaner, 5x6's just dont really sound right in our trucks( i know because i have 6x8 pioneers in mine and my buddy with same truck has the 5x6 pioneers and mine win with loudness and clarity by a long shot)

6x8s! thats the size you are looking for, sorry for giving the wrong answer earlier, i had 5x7s earlier but only cause they were a great deal. im useing 6x8 kenwoods they sound great. I also added a small 6.5 amplified bazooka bass tube under the passenger rear seat. im happy with the sound.

Actually, both answers are correct. I went with 5x7 Sony xPlods for the front doors, and 6x8 for the rears - since you have greater mounting depth there. 5x7 all around doesn't give you the bass you desire (I'm using the stock head unit in my '98). If you're going to change out the head unit, then all new decks have RCA jacks for an external amp, and if you go that route, you can use the under the seat woofer (or bazooka tube, etc) and keep the 5x7's as midrange/tweeter combos, while your separate woofer gives you the ummmph.
