i know it's not the CD player, because all i have is am/fm, no CD. however, i didn't know the batteries needed water. i'll give that a try first and see how it goes. thanks!

the only reason i didn't think it was the battery is because we went straight to checking with a multi-meter and something was drawing power (more than usual). since it seemed that could be the culprit, i haven't had a chance to check the battery yet

well, the truck wouldn't start last sunday, so i left it the way it was and went back in to the city for another week of school with the intention of coming home this past weekend and getting a new battery. however, when i went to try the truck again, it fired right up first try. i drove to the end of my street, where i stalled (it's been a while). i started it back up, but now had a CEL on. so i turned around and brought it home. it sat for about half hour, and then when we fired it up again, the CEL was gone. i went to pepboys to have the codes pulled, but nothing came up. now the truck will not start without a jump.

i know everyone says it's the battery, but if that was the case, why wouldn't it start the previous weekend, but then fire up first try a week later? also, i've noticed that the needles on the cluster are acting strangely. they max out when i turn the truck on, and sometimes the speedometer stays maxed out even after i take the key out (it was like that all week) i'm not sure if this sweeping is normal for fords, so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Check. The. Battery. Bad batteries can do all sorts of weird things. Stop screwing with the difficult stuff and start with the easy stuff. You can easily have a battery that is internally shorting itself out.

Checking the battery is free at most parts stores. Buying the new one is the expensive part.

I have just about the same problem. Ive had the battery tested, alternator tested and I have checked it for parasitic drain with no results. Relay one clicks in sync with the interior lights on and off. Ive taken the fuses out, radio out and still nothing. No light are being left on. That ground on the pass side kick panel is clean and not rusted. The truck wouldnt start when we had a cold snap and then today when it rained 60 degrees out. It sat for 24hrs HELP!!!!!
