Default Some basic tuning help

I have just purchased the Sct X4 and don't really have the funds to throw 115$ at someone to make me a tune, I would rather just use some of the settings provided in the custom tuner. I was really hoping some of you guys know the basic ins-and-outs of those tuner and can help me get a basic performance tune. Take into consideration I have the 5.4 with k&n Cold air intake, Stock 4r70w trans, Ported and polished TB and MAF, Shorty headers (ported and polished), straight piped, Electric fans, I have 35" nitto trail grapplers with the stock 3.27 rear end gearing. Any suggestions to really get the most out of my engine without too much risk to my engine and trans. Thanks ahead of time guys! PS first post

2w or 4w, year, ??? on rear axle ratio. I don't show that for our years, only Rangers. What is your axle code or was the rear diff changed. It is on the drivers pillar tag.

Its a 2002 with 4wd and I am sorry I guess wasn't as informed as I thought I was, my rear end is actually 3.55 non limited slip (axle code is 19)

First thing you do is throw out your hot air intake, put your stock back on and do the gotts mod

X2^^^. Those "cold air" intakes are in reality, hot air heat soaks and they rob power instead of adding it. They draw hot air from the engine bay versus the factory intake drawing cold air from the fender well. Throwing your "cold air intake" in the trash is the cheapest best bang for the buck mod you can do.

I really appreciate the thought but I am more focused on getting a solid tune on my truck, I looked into gotts mod and if I find the stock air intake I'll do it, if not I'll make a trip out to my local junk yard for one

Yea, it me revert, hope it helps.

X3 - That's a slow death intake, one of the worst things you can do to that engine. You don't have any mods to warrant a tune. Shorties are a waste , no gains. Long tubes would have gave you some improvement. Make sure the tuner isn't locked, try the SCT site, there should be a canned set of tunes for that engine. I'm not sure how to access or if you'll get it free. Things change and I don't follow closely. They will adjust shift points/modify trans tables if you can get them.. They do a little manipulation to the AF's for a little bump in power and since youi have Power Improved heads. Yea, I'd hit the site or search out used tuner options or programming.

That's kind of our point. You should be focusing on making sure you have a healthy engine before you try to tune it. Some lessons are learned the hard way, this doesn't have to be one of them lol

Ok seriously guys I appreciate the whole air intake advice but if I wanted it I would of created a thread about it, now if you know anything about how to adjust WOT shift points, shift pressure, WOT air/fuel, spark 0-2000,2000-4000 etc. for performance gains I would LOVE to hear it if not, you guys keep getting my hopes up whenever I see an email thinking I'm about to get some answers on how to use this awesome programmer
