Default Smoked taillight help...

I don't think I would ever do my heads but I need advice on smoking my tails...

I was thinking to just but the plastic covers off of ebay for $50. But then I would be stuck with the 3rd brake light being the stock red. Can anybody find a plastic cover online for sale for the 3rd brake light? Thinking this would be my best choice...

I also have seen people paint their tails but I'm thinking the prep work and painting would have to be perfect in order to look good. I've seen some pretty terrible looking paint jobs on tails around here....

If anyone has pics of smoked tails on F150's, especially flaresides, it would be nice to get an idea.

So buy the covers (someone find a 3rd brake light cover!), or paint myself? As well as pics.

Thanks!!!

find someone in paint and body... any body shop really and ask them if they can do a translucent black and a clear coat on them... just look at my profile pics and look at mine... they got finished over super nice... mine were two coats of the translucent black and 1 coat clear... just depending on how the painter mixes the paint... i wanted mine to be black not smoke. the benefit is that the paint wont ruin your bulb life (supposedly the tint or film does) and you can get your third light done too

i did mine myself with nightshades and nice even coats they turned out great with a little buffing. I get complemented on them all the time. I also did the headlights which was stupid bc it block about 90% of light but im gonna get some projectors soon anyways

You can just get the nightshade paint from a paint place, or a shucks/o'reilys. If your handy with a rattle can you can do it yourself pretty nice. I havent done mine, but i read up and asked around, but decided against it for now.

I used to have euros, but i hated them and got some stock tails, so im waiting to get bored of them to black them out, ha ha.

Thanks for the pics and replies...

I still can't decide what I want to do. I just replaced all the bulbs in my 3rd brake light so no sense to go LED all around on the back. May just spray them all later on. Think I'm gonna stay away from the plastic covers.
