Default Slack in steering wheel

I have some slack in my steering wheel, you can turn it a little before you start turning. It's not real bad but I'd like to tighten it up before it got worse. Is that something I can do or do you have to have it put on some type of machine?

i have the same issue. all you have to do is search for the warn out pars and replace them. im replacing all the parts that do wear over time. this should give you the feel back that you want. also it could be in the steering box as well since its a simple worm drive gear. wouldnt hurt to rebuild it or replace it.

Your right gearhead, they do wear and I've got 101,245 miles on her and I'm pretty sure nothing has been replaced.

Not really. Changing it all out would not be a good thing, it would be a waste of money.

That's like saying my engine has 100k on it and I'm not getting as good of mileage as I did when new. Time to swap it out.

The smart thing to do would be to find out which suspension/steering items are out of spec in terms of play and change those components.

What would be the most obvious and most likely problem components?
