Default Side Trim Removal

So I just started taking off the side trim on my 02' Screw. But when i took off one of the panels, it seem as if there is a black line that is scratched into the paint. The two reds match perfectly and there is no fading, the only problem is that damn black line. Tried using a compound but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick.

tape off below the line. Spray with goo-gone, wipe, then use a buffer with a good cutting pad and some good compound it'll come right off. The only reason it wouldn't is if the truck has been resprayed at some point and it's a clear coat line.

It's never been resprayed, it just looks as if they etched a line in the metal to mark where the tape would go. (They as in ford)

they did not. Do you have a picture? Buffing by hang might not do the trick.

I don't have a picture, I decided to call it quits for the night, haha. But I was using a buffing pad, not sure what the type is, the pad is one that has like the fringe type things on it.

Same thing happened to my truck. I know my truck was totaled at one time and who ever painted it did a horrible job so I assume that's where my black line came from lol.

I don't recall it looking etched into the paint. However, it was a mother to get off lol. Had to get out the good stuff, probably the strongest stuff you can use without damaging the clear. Duplicolor makes it AFAIK, it's called "Paint Prep."

Thanks for the help guys. I decided to take it section by section, and so far it seems to be getting better.
