Default Shift Linkage Adjustment

I have a 99 auto 4.6 and rrecently the shifter has been sloppy, how can I adjust it?

That is just a cable. On the drivers side of your Tranny is the shift linkage. Look at the end and if if the snap is broken.

the snap isn't broken... Is there an adjustment behind the dash? I can actually make the mechanism on the side of the transmission shift one gear while I'm under the truck... Is that bad?

No. That's normal. I don't think those are adjustable. It made need a replacement . Or it needs to be adjusted cause its broken

I figured it out... it was a bracket under the dash that was loose, had two screws that backed out... I tightened them up and it goes in gear better than it ever has now...

I always put a small dab of lock tight on them. Glad the solution was easy!
